Centennial Awards: Hugh Burleigh

In our Centennial year, All Souls is honoring members of our church who have contributed greatly to shape how our congregation and community care for each other. On Sundays, we are featuring an honoree, highlighting their service and their meaningful experiences.

All Souls Housing Outreach Award

Hugh Burleigh has been a member of All Souls for over 40 years and has worked with the HOUS group since the 1990s. HOUS works to improve housing for our friends and neighbors in need and Hugh says it has been important to him because they have achieved real objectives that have had a positive impact on many people. The projects have attracted a variety of volunteers to rebuild homes, adding to and maintaining the Conservage Houses and to upkeep the church building.

“As a volunteer, I have learned that helping others gives a tremendous satisfaction. I hope to be able to continue with this work. I have also learned that many people are ready to help; they just need a worthy cause and some leadership.”

—Hugh Burleigh

Hugh says that working on repairing homes has been a very rewarding experience in many ways. Seeing the joy of the owners whose homes have been repaired, the camaraderie of all the volunteers, and knowing efforts have saved someone’s home and that All Souls and other charities contributed to the costs.

As a volunteer, Hugh has learned that helping others gives a tremendous satisfaction. He hopes to continue with this work. To the congregation he says that All Souls has many needs for your help. Seek them out. The satisfaction you gain will surprise you!

Congratulations Hugh on the All Souls Housing Outreach Award.  All Souls is so grateful for the good work you have done with your hands and leadership skills.

Do you have a story you’d like to tell?

All Souls is always looking for unique perspectives, stories of our Unitarian faith in practice, community building, and the human experience. We also need volunteers to help us capture church life through photography, videography, editing, storytelling, and AV work. To connect and volunteer in any of these capacities, please email our Director of Communications Bonita James, bjames@allsoulschurch.org.
