Centennial Awards: Nancy McDonald

In our Centennial year, All Souls is honoring members of our church who have contributed greatly to shape how our congregation and community care for each other. On Sundays, we are featuring an honoree, highlighting their service and their meaningful experiences.

Partners in Education Award

Nancy McDonald has been involved with Partners in Education since 1984 when  she served on the National Board of Partners in Education. The decision was made to reach out to the faith communities and Nancy volunteered to ask All Souls to participate. All Souls was the first church in the Nation to “adopt” a school and thus the partnership between All Souls and Jackson Elementary was forged. For Nancy, it was an opportunity to engage with teachers and children and help the children to master basic skills and to engage community resources to help children experience Tulsa beyond their neighborhoods.

Nancy says she has learned so much about different cultures while doing her volunteer work, including poverty and the impact it has on children. She learned how to organize, recruit, place, train and recognize volunteers for their service and saw the impact that volunteers can have on a child and in a classroom.

Nancy encourages each All Souls member to step out beyond the church and select one of the social justice teams to volunteer.  Your experience will broaden your engagement in the larger community and you will make a difference that will make you feel good about what you are doing.

“I would encourage each All Souls member to step out beyond the Church and select one of the social justice teams to volunteer. Your experience will broaden your engagement in the larger community and you will make a difference that will make you feel so good about what you are doing.”

Congratulations Nancy on the All Souls Partners in Education Award.  Your commitment to education and to All Souls makes us feel good and we are so grateful to have you in our community.

Do you have a story you’d like to tell?

All Souls is always looking for unique perspectives, stories of our Unitarian faith in practice, community building, and the human experience. We also need volunteers to help us capture church life through photography, videography, editing, storytelling, and AV work. To connect and volunteer in any of these capacities, please email our Director of Communications Bonita James, bjames@allsoulschurch.org.
