One of our favorite annual events returns on Wednesday, May 3 at 5:30 in Emerson Hall. Empty Bowls is a fundraiser for All Souls Community Resource Bank (CRB), which works to reduce hunger in Tulsa. The event includes a community meal, music, and a silent auction of bowls created by members, friends and local artists. We’re especially excited this year to feature the creation of a collaborative community bowl that will be raffled off at the end of the evening, and to let everyone decorate their own dessert cookie.
Why This Work Matters
A recent cut to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits has left many Oklahomans struggling to feed their families. Families with children lost an average $223 in monthly benefits, while seniors lost an average of $168 a month.
Oklahoma is the 4th hungriest state in the nation.
Pandemic emergency funds are expiring as food prices rise and wages remain stagnant, putting family budgets under more and more stress.
Our community partners in the last year included: Unity Learning Academy, John Hope Franklin Elementary, and Monroe Demonstration School in Tulsa Public Schools, Vernon AME Food Pantry and Meals, Lindsey House and Empower Families (both are housing first projects), and Comunidad de Esperanza (supporting recent immigrants).
Over the past year, the CRB provided almost 40 tons of food to over 3,600 families!

- $50 Donor – meal for up to 2 adults and family AND fills 3 bags of groceries for a school family
- $100 Sponsor – meal for 4 people AND makes possible fresh food for a month for a community partner
